Alienware Laptop

Hi,

I have been looking at the Alienware M17x R3
http://www.dell.com/ie/p/alienware-laptops

I was told a lot of money simply goes into the brand name, and that it is possible to find good laptops for cheaper, but I'm not so sure. I have not been able to find any ASUS or MSI laptops for cheaper. (E.g. The closest ASUS is 400 euros more expensive) Have they been hidden away from Ireland?

Well what are the spec's on the M17 your looking at? The same spec's will almost certainly be cheaper on a different brand.

a friend of mine spent 5 grand on a gaming laptop once,
an alien ware one,
it caused nothing but trouble from day one.burning out graphics and and all.
It coulnt even run games on the battery!
another of my mates got a lower spec one around the same time and that was also ****e.I think he ended up getting it replaced after a year.

Thanks. Saveonlaptops sells a similar spec Asus, but it is 1500 pounds (as opposed to euros)

The XMG brand looks very interesting. I can get a similar spec laptop for 200 euros cheaper it seems. And (most importantly), they offer non-German keyboard layouts! How are they for reputability? Do their laptops melt?

Novatech seems to be as expensive as alienware (a little more). (At least for the 17-inch range, which is what I am interested in.)

I want to steer clear of Medion. I have heard bad things about their build quality.

Really? I have heard Alienware hardware is well-sourced. It seems laptop purchasing is a bit of a minefield.

The old alienware hardware was well sourced, the current alienwares are just dells with fancy looking chassis.
