    Hi all
the BAS/ESP and ABS warning lights appear on and off while I am driving Merc A140. I have a NCT on Friday. Checking other forums there could be any issue from steering column to wheel alignment to dodgy electrics and of course issues with brakes.

Anyone experienced this and any suggestions on most likely fault given that the lights are not on all the time?

Would it fail NCT automatically or will they still test?

    Thanks

Would a dodgy brake switch cause some of those issues? It does on the w210s. It might be a cheap fix, dealer will only charge about 20 for the part.

not sure. would they still complete the NCT and fail for the ABS light on? Free re-test assuming that was the only issue?

ABS light lit up is an automatic fail (free visual retest though) from experience.

It happened to me on a 350Z and it seems to be fairly similar to all cars.

Either a wheel/speed sensor (cheap fix), need a top-up of brake fluid (cheap fix) or your ABS pump or ABS module is broken (not a cheap fix).

In my situation, the pump and module were all in one assembly unfortunately so it was big bucks brand new but I got a second hand one from traynors up North and took the pump off it and replaced my one with it and everything worked straight away.

You can get the module refurbished if that's the bit broken - a lot of auto mechanics do this for cheap enough.

You can check it if you have a multimeter. There are two poles, one is normally open, the other normally closed. One does the lights (the NO), the other (NC) signals to the electronics modules.

My mate had a recent NCT fail with the ABS light, he has to turn up for a free retest when its fixed.
