Timing Belt for a Toyota Avensis

Hi Folks,

Anyone got any idea how much it would cost to get the timing belt changed on a 2008 toyota avensis? It's got 116,000 kms on the clock. Thanks

If it is a chain you don't need to change it.

What engine is in it? All the petrol engines had chains, the earlier diesels had a belt but from 2007 onwards they changed to a different engine with a chain, so either way your 2008 car should have a chain.

Hi George,

It's a 2 litre Strata diesel Avensis. It said in the manual that the Timing Belt should be changed at 105,000 kms so I just presumed it was a belt. I'll phone the main dealer tomorrow and find out for definite. Thanks

If it's got a belt you'd want to be getting it done soon (as in asap) unless of course you want to be forking out for bent valves and other related items:eek:! 10,000 km is a lot to be over the interval for a belt change.

That said, I agree with George, almost all modern Toyotas don't have belts - the petrols certainly haven't had belts for at least the past 12 years.

Unless it starts rattling, no you don't - a chain is designed to last the lifetime of the engine:)! Just make sure the car is serviced at least every year or 15,000 km, whichever comes first.

The Toyota service manuals are universal across the range so its telling you that vehicles which have belts should be changed at 105k, but yours has a chain.

You'll notice the service book gives various service items and beside some it will say maybe yaris 1.0 only or corolla/verso D4D only etc
