    Hi,

I am a few months away from becoming a father and am have been looking at schooling options. We are hoping not to christen our child but with 90% of schools in Ireland being of catholic ethos this may be difficult.

Does anyone know of any good educate together schools in the Clontarf, Sutton, Howth or Portmarnack area?

Are there any other catholic schools in the area that do not favour catholics as part of their enrolement policy?

    Thanks

argghhhhh...deleted my post.Congratulations on impending fatherhood. Anyhow, you need to check with the schools around you as to their enrolement policy. you'll find a list of schools here.
    http://www.schooldays.ie/articles/primary-Schools-in-Ireland-by-County

If you want to post the names of specific schools you might get more specific answers. (I'd hope!) You can also check education.ie to see the whole school inspections' reports (WSE)Not every school has a report up yet though.

PS It seems in some parts of Dublin that certain primary schools are feeders for secondaries, so mad as it sounds, you need to take that into account too.

    cheers

There's a well established and very good Educate Together school in Kilbarrack- North Bay ETNS- there is also a good handful of other excellent schools in the area but this is the only ET school in the area you mention - there are 2 others in Glasnevin- North Dublin National School Project (known as NDNSP) and Glasnevin Educate Together.

    Thanks hilarymcl

any ideas which is considered the best of the three ET schools in Glasnevin, Kilbarrack.

Of the Catholic schools anyone know which ones are considered to provide better education?

    Cheers

They each have different qualities- to be honest I'd suggest a visit to each and see which one you feel most comfortable with. Maybe someone else can help with the Catholic schools - I'm not so familiar with them. Best of luck.

dont forget, theres numerous new large schools to be built over the next few years in areas with population expansion **.

Check the dept of education for more details

** NOW. That this basic provision for schools and other services wasnt provided at the height of the boom when areas were balooning in size is just pure shambolic and a right sign of a disfunctional governance by various governments over the years who see their most important task as getting relected and not making ireland or the lives of its people any better (except when its directly linked to getting more votes obviously)

    Spin!
See the real story from the INTO website
INTO disputes claim of 106 new schools at primary level
The INTO described the claim that the Department’s five year plan for school buildings would result in 106 new schools at primary level as confusing.
Analysis of the list published today shows 17 brand new schools will be built over the next five years at primary level or less than four new schools per year. The union said the rest of the projects consisted of new buildings for existing schools that are currently in prefabs or dilapidated accommodation.

    Hi,

seems like its going to be a while before the government sorts out the imbalance of patronage in the primary schools but its good to see it going in the right direction.

Anyone have any positive or negative things to say about Belmayne and North Bay Educate Together Schools?

    Cheers

My neighbour has her two kids in the Belmayne Educate together and they seem to like it - they have mixed classes due to size - i.e 3rd/4th class are in the same class etc. Right next door is St. Francis Primary school which is a Catholic Parish school - both schools were built at the same time. You could easily check them both out - they also feed into the Howth Deanery for Secondary Schools so plenty of choice for second level.

    Cheers aisher,

i'm not really familiar with how the secondary school process works. Does the Howth Deanery mean all secondary schools in Howth? Do you know where i'd find more info on this,

    thanks

The Howth Deanery includes schools in Howth, Bayside, Donaghmede, Raheny, Baldoyle, Kilbarrack- the list is long - you apply on a common application form and pick the school you want - if you check out the enrolment policy of each school it will tell you how they allocate - sometimes they give preference to feeder primary school ahead of the Deanery system so for a particular school you would want to check them out individually - you are never 'guaranteed' a place if a school is very popular. Most of the schools hold Open days in September prior to filling in the Deanery forms so you can check them all out lol.

As soon as your baby is born get an application form into all the schools you have an interest in. My son was born in June 2008 and I put his name down for North Bay when he was 7 weeks old. I've since moved so he won't be going there. I put his name down for both years 2012 and 2013. He's going to be 4 in June but I got a letter from North Bay to say they don't have room this year but they'll keep him on the list for next year when he's 5. I don't want to send him til he's 5 anyway and hopefully he'll get the ET on the southside here where we live now (also enrolled when he was 7 weeks old!)

Best of luck! Apply for the schools but most importantly enjoy the baby time!

not sure if you've heard, but there is a campaign out to get an Educate Together School into the Dublin North Central Area (North Strand, Docklands, Fairview, Marino and Clontarf).

you can pre-enrol your child online which is very handy.

have a look at their website for more information

    http://educatetogethernc.com/

    hope that helped.
