My mother is a citizen of both countries, and has been receiving her Irish pension since retirement.

Can you claim a US and an Irish pension at the same time? Is there any reduction in either?

Thanks for anyone with any experience or knowledge in this.

If your mother is on contributory pension she can get any other pension she likes, there may be tax implications on her income.

Non-contributory pension, all other income must be declared to the dept as this payment is means tested

Thanks. Yeah it's just the regular state pension, I think it's €238 per week. Would another pension likely to change that much do you think, are there bands? We're just wondering whether it's worth claiming the US one or not.

You need to see whether it is contributory or not both pay the same.

Whether the state pension is contributory? She's hasn't paid money into it, which is I presume what that means.

Non-contributory pension so these guidelines will apply http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/meansassess.aspx#sect4
