error copying files to USB 3 external drive

Hi guys, just bought a new Samsung 1 TB USB 3 external drive (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S2-3-0-Powered-Portable-Midnight/dp/B004AUDO86).

Started copying my media collection onto it yesterday and immediately ran into trouble. The error takes the form of a Windows Popup stating the following : "Title Problem Copying . Message An error has occurred. The destination you have specified does not exist. It might be an offline network location or an empty cv or dvd drive. Check the location and try again" For some reason each time I get this error the autoplay dialog also comes up as though the drive were just plugged in?

I've diagnosed the drive using the Samsung software that came with it, it says the drive is operating correctly, reformatted with that software, reformatted with Windows (using Win 7 Professional), both formats in NTFS. Also tried copying only files from directories instead of directory structure to the root dir on the drive, and finally only files under a GB in size after seeing a thread where that was suggested and again no joy.

I've also tested the usb port with a USB 3 64GB stick with no issues, copied 58GB of media files in about 5 min so I know the USB 3 port and drivers are working correctly.

Final recourse was to test copying the files over a usb 2 connection and guess what? Files are happily copying away at a crawl with no issues!

So is this drive not what it says it is? i.e have I bought a USB 2 drive marketed as a USB 3 drive??

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Figured it out. Only thing I hadn't tried was the motherboard ports. Bit weird as the usb stick worked off the front panel with no problems but could not get the samsung drive to do the same?

Anyway I know this is not a review section but if anyone reads whose interested in this drive I'd have a look around before selecting. Not at all impressed with the speeds. Kingston 64GB stick was happily chugging along around 105GB, this drive went from 150GB for first 5 seconds and has settled on 64GB. Hardly 10 * speed over USB 2. At most double what I got copying over the USB 2 port, definitely not worth paying the extra :(
