Network internships in Ireland?

    Hello,

I recently passed the Comptia Network+ and have the A+ already. I studied for the CCNA before and failed, but im halfway through re-studying for the first exam.

I need hands-on experience and have no idea how to go around it. I cant afford equipment for a home lab, and I cant find anywhere that would take me on for non-paid internship work.

It is very frustrating. I am a damn hard worker, very commited and even though this line of work is in demand I am just short of being very employable.

Would anyone have any advice on work experience or internships in this industry? The big dream is to become a network engineer, hopefully before im 30!

    Kai.

Hi, have you looked into job-bridge or internships in the UK?

IBM, BT, Google, Microsoft, EMC and Dell would be major companies looking to hire someone like you. You might get an internship with one of them?

From what I have read, they take internships only from 3rd level education students.

Job-bridge, you have to be unemployed. Unfortunately I am in full time employment. UK is an option, but that is a serious life change to move to another country. If im not in an internship for no pay in 6 months time I will have to move to the UK.

I am waiting for a reply for an internship at Camara, hopefully that will happen.

    Thanks for the reply doovdela!

    Kai.

Hey Kai, I have recently just found this thread, and i was wondering how you got on regarding an internship, did you find one afterwards?
I have just completed a degree in Computer Network Admin, covering all the CCNA material etc. I dont have a network + or A+ but ive covered all the material for the A+ also. I am finding it very hard to get a lucky break and gain work experience. Ive been looking towards London etc myself. I was thinking about tech support jobs, but even those require Server experience, SQL etc which i dont have. I have even thought about going and doing a Java Course. Very frustrating times. At the moment im trying to familiarise myself with Server 2008.
Im 32 by the way! ha

    hey guys,

It seems we are all after the same career. Job bridge and study got me the job I wanted (entry level networking)

from experience you wont really find an position as a network intern. I took an intern-ship at a multi national as a tech support and that helped a lot in getting my current job.

May I ask what qualifications you had when applying to job bridge? And how did you find the whole experience? Did you have server experience etc? The internship route is something that interests me, even level 1 tech support jobs are requiring more than I have at present
