Claiming back tax after emigrating

    Hi,

I have a question that I'm finding it hard to get a clear answer to. Last year on May 7th I transferred within my company from the Dublin office to Toronto for a short term assignment. I have been there since. I was still employed by the Dublin office up until this month, I'm now transferring to the Toronto office for a 2year contract so will be paid by them.

I'm wondering what my tax situation is with respects to claiming back the tax I paid last year since I wasn't resident in Ireland, am I entitled to?

I know the definition is 183days present in the country in a 1 year period, or 280days over two years, but just not sure what that means for me!

Any help people can provide is appreciated.

The taxation of secondments can be quite complicated.

I would recommend that you seek professional tax advice on this matter as dealing with the specifics of your case are beyond the scope of this forum.

In any secondments assignments I have the employer normally provides the employee with access to tax consultants and/or pays for the individual to engage a tax consultant.
