Underage Girls Rugby

Hi - I have a 12 year old daughter who is persistently asking to play rugby. She is a strong GAA and soccer player for her age. I have emailed local rugby clubs but got no answer. I am wondering are there any opportunities for a 12 year old girl to play rugby in the north Kildare area. I'd be grateful for any help.

There's a list of all women's clubs in Leinster who have underage teams. There's contact number there too so it might be easier to call rather than email.

An alternate option would be to contact your kids school and see if they'd be interested in setting up a girls team. This would have the added benefit of introducing more girls to the sport and then there would be a player base that you could then contact a local club about introducing an underage girls team (if one doesn't already exist)

There's contact details for the Leinster schools officer on there - if the local school don't want to get involved she may know of other schools/clubs in the area that could accomodate your kid :)

    Good luck.

Barnhall RFC in Leixlip definitely has a girls team and an adult women's team. Jennie Bagnell in the Leinster Branch will be able to help you if you can't find details on their website. Maybe a little further away but Naas & Cill Dara also have teams. Clane used to have a team not sure anymore and possibly Edenderry.

hope this helps & she gets a chance to play

Thanks to each of you for your replies. I will contact Barnhall at the mobile no. in the link this evening. The website says they train on Wednesday evening - never know she might be playing by tomorrow.

    Thanks again

I got in touch with Peter Black from Barnhall Rugby Club from contact details on website. He runs an under 16s girls team training on Wednesday evenings(includes girls as young as 12). My girl's first start happened to be the same day as another 4 girls starting. She enjoyed it and wants to keep it up so that all looks good. Thanks for all the help again
