Servicing a VW Bora

    Hi,

I've a 2004 1.9 tdi Bora which I bought 6 months ago, had got a full service before I brought it home. It's done 9000 miles since (89k on the clock now), so going to change the oil and filters on it soon.

This is my first car, so I just want to know is there anything else I should be looking out for in this service. I plan on changing the oil, oil/fuel/air filters and not much other than that. Brake pads were done a few thousand miles ago and timing belt is good for another 30k miles!

    Thanks for the help!

Check when the brake fluid and pollen filter were changed last. They are both due every 2 years.

What exactly is the pollen filter? Is it just the air filter? Thanks!

also known as a cabin filter. as you stand an the front of the car with the bonnet open its on the right hand side under the black scuttle pannel just under the wipers. you should see two screws holding it in.

make sure to use the correct spec oil. 505.01 if its a pd engine

Oh grand, I know that lad!!:o

I've actually googled a good bit about oil specs for it the last few days, but can't seem to get a straight answer - Will 15w40 do the trick?? Parents own a small fuel company at home and loads of people with similar engines come looking for 15w40, others want something else, think 5w40 was mentioned before!

5w 40 is the correct oil but for long life its 5w 30, thats what autodata say anyway.

Will 15w40 do damage to the engine or what's the reasoning for it? I know it has to do with thickness of the oil or whatever but I know loads of similar engines who have never seen anything but 15w40.

In saying that, for the cost of a drum of oil I don't want to do any damage to my own!

keep away from 15w40, use only that which suppose to be for your engine. i know that many people use 15w40 , because it is cheap, but in longer run, eventually will damage engine. after few years, everyone wondering, why engine sound like bag of nuts. Right oil, is vital important for engine.
