just thought this was worth a chuckle.
went to renew my insurance last month and my quote came in double one of the lads in the office with a similar spec machine / criteria for insurance - i.e distance / area / no claims the lot. .

    1.6 alfa 2001 vs a 1.6 vectra 2003

when i queried the difference seemingly it was due to the alfa being categorized as a sports car :D

argued that the vectra had more power / torgue but to no avail :D.

obviously i came off the phone feeling even more superior then normal :P

anyone else had something similar ?

With respect, that's a Top Trumps argument. Whether or not the Alfa's a sports car, it's certainly sportier than a 1.6 Vectra. And insurance quotes are based on claims history, not bhp.

My 1.9JTD Alfa GT costs more to insure than a brand new Audi A5 3.0tdi!

ooops maybe i got it wrong when talking to her
    alfa : 120 bhp = 106 lb.ft
    vectra : 101 bhp = 110 lb.ft

    crap :D

still though it means 19 bhp cost me 350 eur more :D

    - we have the same noclaims - mostly the same distance and such.

I remember that my Golf GT Tdi was far more to insure than a highline Tdi, even though they were the exact same car, same engine etc.

The GT Tdi was the same to insure as a petrol GTi, had I known I would have just gone for a highline.

Incidently we now have a 156 1.6 and its not that expensive to insure ~450quid I think on lady drive (wifes car)

My 318i convertible was also classified as high performance car and I had to pay a little bit more when transfered insurance from my previous car. Funny though that a day before 318i I was about to buy 325i convertible and that wasn't classified as high performance car. :D

When I was ringing around for insurance on my 156 1.8 for my third year, some places told me that I had to be 30 before they'd touch me. The cheapest I got from an insurer who wasn't my current was TWICE what my renewal was.

    Madness Ted.

Ya, but fill that up at your local diesel pump and it'll break!
