I would have thought €9,000 would have been the average for a 1.6 seen as 2007 1.9's are around €12,000. E.G. This 1.6 is €8,900. http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Touran/TOURAN-C/201206206894843/advert?channel=CARS Id say compare it to this one and see why this one is €900 more expensive.

There are several better options for this type of vehicle IMO.

    Such as?

It's fine to tell the OP there are better options but without giving examples you might as well say, ladeedee, ladeeda.

    *Opel Zafira, cheaper, better seating.
*Toyota verso, more reliable(although larger engine)
*Dare I say the renault grand scenic(most people ignore the reliability issues) more spacious, better seating lower fuel and tax costs(1.4 or 1.5dci available)

Zafira doesn't have 3 separate seats in the middle row - potentially of major importance to some families. Verso is no doubt more reliable and better in some respects, but is also expensive and the vast majority are poorly speced. A Scenic of that vintage could be a reliability lottery and I'm guessing that the diesel would also be quite expensive.

I looked briefly at a Touran recently and - as long as you're not regularly carrying passengers in the back row (in common with most compact MPVs) - I think it has a very practical interior (very spacious for the size) and decent specs seem to be available. However, the 1.6 seems to be gutless and not exactly frugal I'd imagine. The 1.4 TSI and 1.9 TDi seems to have major (and majorly expensive) reliability issues. I'd consider one with a full warranty, preferably from a VW dealer.

been lurking around the motors forum for the last few days. trading in a 1.4 golf and have my eye on a 2007 1.9 diesel VW touran. 2 owners - 99,000km on the clock. when you say there are reliability issues is this one of the models you are referring to?

Been a while since I read up on this but IIRC the 1.9 is one of the problem models (seemingly more so than other cars using the engine for some reason). From memory, issues seemed to be ABS modules (common to all models), injectors and clutches. Have a look round the net and see what you come up with. I'd certainly be wary of buying one without warranty.
