    Mak did you not see

    Dirty Harry Goshee?

    Nope.

But I tell a little white lie.

After seeing Samurai (Tom Cruise) I developed an interest in Kendo and went to some competitions - without doubt some of the most enjoyable comp's I've attended.

So I visited a local Kendo club for a look, and hated the club so I never went back.. But I still love Kendo :)

Is there some way I can dedicate my life to making sure expressions of art like this get made more often?!?!

I would not say it got me into the martial arts, but when I first joined the club I'm in heard some of the students mention Bruce Lee and seeing all of his films certainly ensured I kept interest in it. 11 years later I am a black belt in Karate and still enjoy watching good entertaining martial arts films, training, and assisting others in learning the art I love.

For me it was a book, heard mentioned somewhere.

Go Rin No Sho, The Book of Five Rings...hence my username ;)

Film martial arts wise I like :-

    Ong Bak
Way Of the Gun (guns are martial arts, so there)
High Art (Peter Coyote and Tcheky Karyo, not the durty one!)
Old Boy (hammers are a martial art too)
    Man From Nowhere
    I Saw The Devil
Bad Day at Black Rock (One armed ass kicking)
The Boys in Company C (R. Lee Ermey kicks ass)
The Ninth Configuration (Bar fight scene with Stacy Keach)
The Killer Elite (James Caan and Robert Duvall, Hapkido type cane work)
The Duellists (Keith Carradine and Harvey Kietel, good sabre work)
The Long Riders (Keith, David and Robert Carradine, bowie duel)

Yep, I know most people think of eastern when they hear "Martial Arts", but western arts blew through Japan when it came down to it.
There is a history of Northern Europeans and Scandinavians being some of the most combative and most effective fighters ever.
There are old fencing manuals from Germany and Spain giving details on how to fight with various sword styles, the Romans and the Gladius conquered most of the earth, as did Alexander with the Kopis and the Mongols with the horse bow.
Catch wrestling, Greco Roman, boxing, fencing, axe, main gauche, short and long sword, longbow and crossbow not to mention spears and pikes.

There's a lot of martial arts being overlooked in general. :D

Not a film, but I was an avid fan of the TV series 'Kung Fu' in the 70's. I thought David Carradine's Kwai Chang Caine was so cool.

When I went to college in the 80's I immediately went to join the Kung Fu club .... but I saw their demo and thought they were a bunch of .... well, ...... I don't like to use the word that described them. No reflection on the art, but the club was linked to a guy called 'Master Bates' (no kidding) and I couldn't see myself joining that club. So I joined the karate club instead and have been at it ever since, more or less.

When I watch David Carradine's character now I smile at how poor a martial artist he was, and how clever the editing was to make him look good.

I got this for Christmas one year.

And then I joined a karate class. I think it lasted about two months.
