Was on Done Deal this evening and spotted this

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2958688

    06 Focus ST Van.

I'm pretty sure that ST was for sale in CAB motors a year ago.

Quite distinctive with the Black paint / Orange seats combo.

Now I'd love to be paying 288 tax Vs 1200 ish but I'm not sure how he can get away with regging it as a van.

you can change almost anything to a van,ive seen gto s subaru wrx waggons ect,and the tax is now 310.if youve a use for it,you can change it,was talking to a lad with a twin turbo supra and i asked him how did he go about it,no bothers,he needed it for advertising.

in the Ad, the seller states "very good on petrol" ...........LOL, I'd like a ticket to his planet!

They are a pig on fuel........

Yeah I laughed at that bit.
With the mods he has I'd give an educated guess of 20 mpg around town and max 30 on a motorway

So once I had a business and a vaild reason I could take the seats out and pay 1k less tax a year?
Would have to insure commercailly too I guess?

yes, weld up the sealt belt bolt holes, people will tell you have to black out the windows and put in a flat floor ectra, but you dont.ive done it with 3different vechicals,i ran in to problems with insurance when i was going buying a wrx waggon, fbd refused to insure it commerically, but then they refused to insure it privatly aswell,so may have been the fact it was a wrx.

Know this car and the guy who built it, the only bit I would question in the ad is the statement about petrol!

It really is a well built machine and quite the sleeper.

Is it an ST that's been converted into a van or van that's been given ST running gear?

Second option AFAIK. Van that has been given ST running gear.

    Second option for sure.

Look at the back end, it's lacking the rear bodykit of a genuine ST and it also comes up on Cartell as a 1.6 Diesel...

Not sure how easily you could get away with that "commercial" tax. Playing with fire imo.

Exhausts look a little bit too long/slant cut for their own good.

I can't see many insurance companies being too happy about that.

Not really worth it to save a grand/annum imo, fair enough if it was diesel as you'd get the VAT back on fuel used too, on a petrol where the only motivation is to save on motor tax I don't think it would appeal after you sit down and do the figures.

From reading the add that actual focus wasn't originally an ST.

Wouldn't be an issue if you were a business user and used it for business purposes, same as any other commercial, it is a van in fairness.

Really? Even though it's appearing as a Diesel on Cartell? (So still registered as one possibly?)

I'm not 100% on how updated Cartell would be on that kind of thing, do they go off the Original registration of the car? If so then I guess that may explain it.

No doubt it should be officially changed to being petrol powered, it will have to be insured as 2.5 ST powered too, however once all that is done there is no issue with it being a commercial.

Once the VLC describes it as being powered by petrol and it's a commercial I wouldn't be bothered with what Cartell has it as.

But does it? Too many ads sell cars with bigger engines fitted to them as "taxed as 1.4".
OK, we don't know in this case, but this car seems too much like a novelty.
Should I ever be able to afford one, I'd go for the factory version, ta very much.;)
And I can just imagine the nightmare of trying to convince an Irish insurance company to insure it even for silly money. They passionately hate anything that is not a standard car.

Ah I thought it was orignally an ST and just got the seats taken out.
So he fitted a new engine/gearbox ect.
    Along with suspension/Brakes?

I wouldn't trust the brakes of a 1.6 diesel on my ST

I don't know what the VLC says, realistically once it's a commercial, correctly insured and taxed and used as a commercial it matters little what's under the bonnet.
