Hi, bit of a noob question here but I've avoided ebay for years but now really need to sell something on it

Say I'm advertising an iphone and I don't put a reserve on it. It goes for 50 quid and obviously I think this is too low.

Can I cancel the sale and say "sorry this is too low" or do I have to sell it for the 50 quid?

It costs about 1.50 to put a reserve of a 100 quid. Is it worth doing this or would I be ok with the free 0.99 option

    Thanks!

You have to sell it. If 50 is too low, set a higher reserve - 1.50 could save you €50 so of course it's worth it.

You have to sell at whatever it goes for, so set as your reserve the lowest figure that you're happy to accept. Incidentally, if you are new to eBay you are unlikely to do well selling something expensive for a decent price as canny buyers stay away from buying from sellers with low or non-existent feedback. :)

No one will stand over you and force you to post it, but if you choose not to, you WILL recieve negative feedback and ebay may limit your selling priveliges. Your selling experience with ebay may be short lived if you dont read and understand the rules.

You can also use a high starting price instead of a reserve. I hate reserve pricing, just tell me the minimum you want from the start -not sure if one costs more than the other though.

I know some prefer reserve as it is more likely to at least get bidding started.

I had a guy refuse to sell me concert tickets before, they are at a pretty good price, not crazy, and he was a big ticket reseller so it wasn't like some poor kid. I left good detailed negative feedback and ruined him with it, I checked months and years on and could see he sales dropped dramatically.
