A family member has a Dell Inspiron 1370 (running Win 7) and lately the mouse seems to be freezing. Not 100% sure on its age, but it would be over a year anyway. What might cause this issue?

You should check your mouse drivers.
Remove the drivers you have now and replace it with the latest mouse driver.
depending on the mouse they could have updated mouse drivers for a 64bit OS.

Thanks. I uninstalled the driver, which prompted a restart. Don't think it's changed anything as the driver search feature didn't find anything newer than the 2009 one that's in there.

Causes for Windows 7 mouse freezes
Broken mouse - Try to replace the mouse with another mouse, if the second mouse is working and not get freezed, than the first mouse is probably broken and is the reason for this mouse freezes.

Problematic USB/PS2 ports - Does the red light under the mouse is turned on? If you don't have any red light, then your USB/PS2 port must be broken. Try to plug the mouse to other computer or laptop, if the red light is turned on the the mouse is working, you might have problems in the ports.

Registry problems - Errors in the registry are the No.1 reason among Windows 7 users for mouse freezing. If the mouse or the port are not the problem, that it must be a registry problem.

Cleaning your registry means running all over the registry entries, look for errors and invalid entries and fix them. Luckily there are little smart softwares that do this procedure. Those software are called registry cleaners. Using a registry cleaner for fix your registry will:

    Stop Windows 7 mouse freezes

Stop Windows 7 from crashing and freezing

    Speed up your computer performance.

    Stop all PC errors.

    Backup your registry by schedule.

Hmm, the screen sometimes goes mostly white now, fairly washed out looking, but then it seems to be OK. Wondering if the graphics card is fecked.

Did anybody spill anything on it? Have you anyone in the house that might not admit that?

    Is it the original charger/battery?

Have you tried it on Battery only / Charger only (Battery Removed.)?

"And when you register this "little smart software", you will be offered the latest and greatest pharmaceutical products designed to enlarge a certain part of your body and help you making herself a happy woman again. And as a bonus we will also trace your long lost uncle in Nigeria for you". Registery cleaners are the modern "memory boosters", snake oil ...

Which type of "mouse" are we talking here? Wired? Wireless radio? Wireless Bluetooth? Can you tell us make and model? Does this happen with the touchpad as well?
