Poor reception Vintage TV

My parents have an old rusty Sky mesh dish that recently lost reception of weak narrow beam channels such as Vintage TV. I recently noticed I have very poor reception of Vintage TV when ever it rains or gets misty. Both our dishes are almost two decades old and rusted.

Just curious is Vintage tv poor signal with everyone or whether it's time to replace the satellite dishes?

I had a similar problem recently with vintage TV, i changed just the dish reflector and its been fine since, what is your strength/quality showing on receiver box and also are there any other channels on that transponder effected eg moviesformen+1,BEN , Voxafrica AFRICA etc?

There are no weak transponders at 28 east, get a new dish.

Signal strength right now in dry evening is 70% and quality is 90%

If I change dish perhaps an 80cm dish is more future proof to accomodate Saorsat possibilities

Obviously the rusty dish is probably not helping, but I suggest checking the skew on the lnb.
Noticed poor or no signal for some channels on my parents Sky and thought I would reallign the dish for them. However turned out to be much simpler as the lnb was obviously not skewed, so a simple skew later all channels were present and perfect.

The dish had been installed by Sky installers who obviously hadn't a clue about skew and in other aspects was also a far from professional job.

    Can you get Saorview

Saorview may be a better option than Saorsat and you could just replace your old dish with a new standard Zone 2 dish for Freesat.

I have a consistently poorer signal on this transponder, with regular dropouts if there is heavy cloud cover. (There are those among us who watch EWTN and I get frequent complaints. Requests for divine intervention have brought no permanent improvement.)

I beg to disagree. I have found that when aligning a multi LNB dish that the transponder for Vintage TV is one of the weaker ones.

My experience of Vintage TV is that the bit rate is terrible anyway, regardless of signal quality.

Agreed, Vintage is acknowledged in many TP setting guides as the 'weakest' active TP on 28.2e.
I have 28.2 set up at a 12degree offset in multisat and while I pull in BBC1hd and C4HD at 97snr/99agc I am at 39snr/92agc for Vintage TV.
It shouldn't really pose an issue in a correctly aligned single LNB setup, maybe the OP's rust issues are affecting the signal reception/attenuation? But that said, it is a much weaker TP compared to the vast majority of 28.2s output.

Are the weak ones the 28.5 tps? Don't those fractions of degrees become more apparent when you offset the lnb?

    Good point!
But in my own experience with offset LNBs even when using the Vintage TP as my reference to align the offset LNB, I never get above 40%snr on that TP for some reason its just at a lower power than almost all other 28.2 TPs (for me at least)
There was a few ''weakest TP'' .xmls that listed it aswell i'll see if I can dig them up.
