Do some people lack a conscience?

I don't want to put this in PI because I was something light hearted, with some jokes and wit to help pick me up.

I was involved with a man who was full of lies and empty promises, lying carelessly without a thought what that would do do me. Probably to keep me on a back burner or maybe some other reason, only known to him. When I aired things to him he didn't have the decency to be honest with me so that I could move on in peace. Just fed me more lies which instilled a false hope in me. He was unable to put his money where his mouth was and there was no corrective action taken from him to put things right and no apology. He was rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful to me.

I'm well shot of him now but with the treatment that I received I fell downwards into depression. There was a false hope which led me to insanity. I eventually turned into an absolute crazy bitch to him and I mean CRAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZY. I was so mean, nasty and cruel to him sending him, horrible, disgusting and insulting messages.

I know revenge is not the answer because it solves nothing, so I don't know why I behaved like this transmitting the baddness that I received from him back at him. It's stopped now but I was feeling down right rotten for the way I behaved, even though he was an asshole. I was ashamed and sorry for the way I treated him. I wrote him an apology but it was dismissed.

yes, about 1% of the population are sociopathic. A good book on this is the psychopath test - the two terms are similes. Psychopath's are often charming, and can pretend to be moral, while not being so. They often achieve positions of power, and are never shy, often charming and attractive to the opposite sex.

not saying this is the case here, you could just be a bit crazy yourself :-)

If he treated you that bad you shouldn't of apologied. I imagine apart of you may of hoped that it could of helped bring things back to the way they were. Probably subconsciously.

As for not having a conscience, I think everyone does. But some things just don't matter enough to people to care about it. For example, one person might feel bad if they insulted someone, another person might not care about insulting someone.

Completely depends on their personality and the type of person they are. There's alot of bellends in the world.

Yes 1% of people are psychopath, and between 2 and 2.5% are sociopaths. So thats 3.5% of the population that have no conscience, though I'm not really sure what the difference between socio and psychopath is, anyone care to enlighten?
So going by those statistics there is approximately 18,000 members on boards who are either socio or psychopathic:eek:

Psychopathy is typically thought to have been present from birth, while sociopathy develops as a result of social factors. The terms have largely been superseded by the umbrella diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder.

People who lack a conscience are capable of developing one, though.

Children don't have a conscience, its something developed around 7/8 iirc, so presumably those with a troubled childhoods could have impaired development of it.

    sociopath
A person with antisocial personality disorder. Probably the most widely recognized personality disorder. A sociopath is often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not usually care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly. They seldom feel guilt or learn from punishments. Though some sociopaths have become murders, most reveal their sociopathy through less deadly and sensational means.

    Charles Manson
    Ted Bundy

A sociopath is mainly identified by there being something very wrong with a person's conscious. They either 1) have a conscious with "holes" in it, 2)they don't seem to have one at all or 3) they are able to completely neutralize their sense of conscious into a perspective that they aren't doing anything wrong.
One thing is for sure: Sociopaths only care about themselves and only see themselves as being "real" or truely human. Everybody and everything outside of themselves are twisted in their mind into mere objects to be used to achieve personal fulfillment.
A sociopath oftin believes that they are doing nothing wrong or doing something greatly good, due to their egocentricity and grandiose sense of self-worth. They will cold-bloodedly take what they want and do as they please at any expense of anyone in their lives; predators who satisfy their lust for power and control through superficial charm, manipulation, intimidation, and violence.
There seems to be a difference between the made sociopath (one who's lived a life with a childhood that pushed them into the mind state of a sociopath) and the "true" sociopath (one who is born a sociopath.)
    - Common Sociopath: simple lack of conscious.
    - Alienated Sociopath: an inability to love or recieve love.
    - Aggressive Sociopath: a consistent saddistic streak.
    - Dyssocial Sociopath: an ability to abide by GANG rules, as long as these rules are the WRING rules.
A list of common (but not limmited-to) so...

    psychopath
A person who knows the difference between right and wrong, but doesn't give a damn. Shows no morality and no emotions towards others, including love, guilt or hatred. Would happily destroy anything or anyone merely for personal pleasure.

Somebody with an antisocial personality disorder whose character traits include at least fifteen of these twenty:
    (aggressive narcissism)
    1. Glib, shallow charm
    2. Grandiose sense of self-worth
    3. Pathological lying
    4. Cunning/manipulative
    5. Lack of remorse for their actions
    6. Emotionally shallow/ lack of affect
    7. Callous/lack of empathy
    8. Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
    (Socially deviant lifestyle)
    9. Need for stimulation/prone to boredom
    10. Parasitic lifestyle
    11. Poor behavioral control
    12. Sexually promiscuous
    13. Lack of realistic, long-term goals
    14. Impulsive
    15. Irresponsible
    16. Juvenile delinquency
    17. Early behavioral problems
    18. Revocation ...

A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.

Psychopaths tend to lack normal human emotions such as guilt. They are also often highly intelligent and skilled at manipulating others.

Also, psychopaths seem to appear normal. You would probably never guess there was something wrong with them.

Note, not all psychopaths are serial killers.
Ted Bundy was a psychopath, but Richard Chase was a psychotic

I wrote him an apology but it was dismissed.
    Profile of the Sociopath

    Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

    Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

    Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

    Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

    Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

    Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Op you have had a lucky escape. He sounds like a prick.

Do some people lack a conscience?

Yes, some (I'm NOT saying all!) journalists and photo-journalists!
For simple example, one rag just couldn't miss an opportunity to make headlines out of two hair-do's even at a funeral of Jedward burying their loved grandfather!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2113058/Jedward-look-sombre-sad-flatten-hair-grandfathers-funeral.html

Disgusting - if your a fan of them or not!

I don't see anything wrong with that story Biggins. They are in the public eye and normally crave attention.

They should be utterly ashamed that The Mail has ran this hair story - over a family funeral for gods sake!
    Is nothing sacred?
Do they always have to drag the bottom of the barrel when it comes to crap like this?

    Terrible!

Time and place - time and place - with a bit, even a modicum of decency!

If dropping human empathy for financial gain means someone is sociopathic, there's a lot more than 1% of the population who are sociopaths!

Ah come on they love the attention, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Their Granddad would be happy to see them in the papers with normal hair.:p

Gawd, I really did turn crazy towards him. I was awful to him and I'm feeling rotten for it.

Has anyone else ever turned slightly mad or crazy after being fcuked about, used and strung along?
