i don't want to take the proper chipped key with me into the water scuba diving so was thinking i could get a copy without the chip with no electronic components at all and use that for the boot. leave the other key in the boot while i swim etc. i have a blank key already see. i know i can get a waterproof yoke to put them in but this would be handier and less worrisome:) thanks

'twill open the boot fine, and the doors too.

    Sounds like an excellent plan.

Yes, the chip is for the immobiliser, it has nothing to do with the locking system. If your main key doesn't have buttons for remote unlocking, it's perfectly fine to take into the water too - the immobiliser pill is a completely passive device, and completely sealed.
