I have no problem emailing links when online via gmail, however if I attempt to email a word document it defaults to Outlook which is not set up. It's probably something simple that needs turning on, can anyone help please?

You would need to save the word doc somewhere like in my documents or the desktop, then attach that document in the Gmail web interface. I'm not aware of any application that will handle the Windows default programs and direct the file to your gmail in the web browser unfortunately

    Meet Affixa
Many applications have the built-in capability to send emails. For example, you can send a document from Microsoft Word, a PDF from Adobe Acrobat, or photos from Windows Explorer. The problem is that these don’t work with web-based email.

Affixa allows you to easily attach files to new messages in Gmail, Google Apps, Zimbra, Office 365, Outlook Web App and Yahoo! Mail.

Oh, and it handles “mailto”s too, so when you click on an email address, you can choose which mail account to use.

I see, so as Outlook seems happy to email the word doc how do I set it up. When I try to send, it asks me for a dial up connection, I've been using broadband for years so why is it asking this?

Never mind Outlook (unless you want to make it your default email client). Affixa should do exactly what you're looking for.

If you want to use Outlook (2007) with gmail, use this guide to configure it accordingly.
