Quick question. Does anybody know if this'll work for Saorview? Just want to be sure before buying one.

    Cheers.

Yep, it will do. You'll need to be in a strong reception area though.

Thanks. Any way of checking which areas have good reception?

    You can check here: http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/coverage-map/

See how close you are to a transmitter.
How are you getting reception at the moment? Your TV may be able to tell you the signal strength.

We have UPC analogue (which I don't think you can even get anymore, behind the times!). The picture quality isn't amazing, so was hoping to pick this up to get the Saorview channels and RTÉ in HD. Nearest transmitter is Three Rock, but I'm in north Dublin. Reckon it'd be okay?

You may get it in north Dublin. I'm in south Dublin and have used similar aerials to get saorview here. I live by a busy road though and every time a truck/bus passed we lost reception. that was very annoying so I ended up buying a cheap (€15) outdoor aerial and that's working great. Would you have space for something like that (it's about 2 feet long)?

If your in a strong reception area, more or less anything will do. I have an old rabbit ears stuck to the wall behind the TV, with the "ears" only extended enough that they are not showing above the TV. Getting perfect reception.

I bent an old coathanger into a folded dipole and it works perfectly, even on the wooden floor at the back of my house - the opposite side from 3Rock.

However, a properly installed contract aerial would be a much better solution.

    3Rock broadcasts on channel 54 and 58.

    Hi,

If I can already pick up Tv3 on an indoor aerial (rabbits ears), does anyone know if thats a good indicator the indoor aerial will work too for the Saorview box? I also pick up RTE on this aerial, but TG4 is very weak and can't really watch it.
I'm in Ennis and according to the Map coverage is strong in my area.
But just wondering if I would need to install a rooftop aerial too for Saorview.

Check out Saorview reception with the indoor aerial first, you might not need the rooftop aerial. The indoor aerial can be subject to interference from within and around the house.

I don't actually have a Saorview box yet, so can't check that!

Might not bother with it if it means the hassle of installing a roof aerial. Was wondering what chance the indoor aerial might work.

I think it should be ok if you can pick up TV3. I was in a similar position and an internal worked for me - as long as there was no traffic interference from outside. Ended up buying a small rooftop and using it inside. Problem solved.

In Ennis myself using an indoor aerial for saorview. No problem with reception apart from the odd bit of local interference. Maghera is no distance away and should give excellent coverage in most parts of Ennis. Installing a loft aerial could be an idea?

Proper UHF type indoor aerials work best, like below

That link is dud but all the indoor aerials on that website look like rubbish. If you must use an indoor aerial take the advice of byte in post 16.
