As has been said so often before, that woman has an inner strength that not many can equal.
The CCTV footage of the final punch is scary, in as far as we know what it did but I'm sure we've all seen many a similar punch thrown without the sad consequences.

She really is a very dignified lady.

Good ole Brendan O'Connor. Cuts from the woman speaking about her dead soon, without barely taking a breath into "Now, let's give away that €10000!!"

I think it's clear from the cctv that gearòid wasn't even looking at the man that hit him. It's a tragedy that he lost his life and Tobias simmons will have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life.I feel sorry for the walsh family but i also have sympathy for tobias.I'm sure that a lot of people have been involved in a drunken fight before or seen one or two fights and both people were just very unfortunate that it's ended with gearòid losing his life.

    RIP EIREBHOY

Never actually heard anything about this, so sorry for everyone involved. Feel very bad for his brother as much as anything, he'll play this night over and over in his mind for the rest of his life wondering if he'd just stopped his brother walking off. Fair play to his mother, fantastic woman.

    Terribly tragic case alright.

From watching the video it seems he staggered back but stayed on his feet. But his mother has said he was tall and had a long way to fall, which would lead me to believe he fell after being hit. Is this the case or did he die from head injuries sustained as a direct result of the punch?

Again. As I, and everybody else, said, terribly tragic case.

For a mother to exhibit such courage at her dead son's death is only to be admired irrespective of her motives (not saying there are ANY, just that even if they were, who gives a ****) such is the bravery and the hopefully hammered home ad that you shouldn't get twisted drunk, it is only a burden.

    RIP EIREBHOY

Didnt see the show but his family has been incredible throughout this tough ordeal. I'd like to think that they have closure at this stage, I cant think of a family that deserves it more.

    Hail Hail! Mo chara

I missed it last night but just watched it there on the the RTE Player .

I must say his mother is one in a million and such a humble person .

The CCTV footage shocked me but , as it seemed the punch was kinda a surprise attack . Not that I think anyone went out to kill anyone that night , but even with drink taken this seems to be a really unfortunate incident that has had massive consequences .

I think everyone can take something from this incident and hopefully it can help folk to double think and prevent injury in heated situations .

RIP Eirebhoy I never had the chance to chat on boards but by reading back on your posts you seemed like a real down to earth guy .

His mam said the punch was the actual cause of death according to the autopsy. It ruptured an artery or something like that. It was the punch rather than the fall.

At the next Celtic home match, they had a tribute to him on the big screen beforehand!

    Very, very sad story.

The amount of fights you seen on nights out and this could just as easily happen to any one involved in them. It'll certainly make me think twice anyway before getting involved in anything like that again.

I don't know how the mother has stayed so calm and strong to be honest, amazing woman.

That's the format of the show, what do you expect?
I thought he handled the interview very well.
