Freeview HD DTR issues

Hi there, I've just bought a freeview hd digital television recorder. I live bang on the Cavan/Fermanagh border and always previously received English and Irish channels though tv3 and tg4 were poor.
The freeview hd dtr is giving me loads of British channels except the regular ones... For eg. I have itv2, e4 plus 1... Loads of uk channels but I am not receiving itv1, bbc1 and 2... The regular ones i always used to get. The fact that I don't get the saorview channels is frustrating enough since I thought freeview hd solved that problem but not getting the regular uk channels (when I'm getting all the extra one's) is just so confusing. My house does have an old aerial... This may be an issue... But is it the only problem? Any advice would be great... Thanks

How many aerials are on the house to receive the UK and Irish channels?

Not sure if this is your problem (but poor TV3/TG4 might indicate this), there have been posts here where one aerial is used to receive both the UK and Irish analogue channels but no digital reception for one service or the other. The solution in these cases was to install an aerial for each service.

Use the Saorview coverage checker to check which transmitter/frequency is recommended for your area - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/coverage-map/

Maybe Brougher Mountain for Freeview - http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=IH350527

Thanks for such a speedy reply. You'll have to excuse my ignorance of aerials.. Im not sure of VHF UHF and so on. But from talking to my dad, 2 aerials were installed in 1986. One is a big elaborate looking aerial that picks up english channels. He says the other one is a simple, small plain aerial that picks up rte. From looking at previous threads and sites, I imagine that a saorview approved aerial might be the answer.

But I just dont understand why I'm picking up such random uk channels and none of the basics? If I was getting none, then I could just site the aerial as the only issue?
Maybe I should return sagemcom hd box?

Just manually tried to tune using frequency/channel mentioned on 2 websites. No luck however

First off there is no such thing as a Saorview approved aerial or a digital aerial, just aerials suitable for reception of a particular frequency range from your neareat transmitters.

Can you post a pic of your aerials, it can be much easier for people to understand your setup without you trying to explain what you have and hopefully offer you some advice.

Can you identify the UHF channel numbers or frequencies of the analogue channels you currently receive to help identify your local transmitters?

One possibility for poor reception could be the age of your installation, after 26 years the aerials or co-ax cable or diplexers or masthead amp might require replacement. Water/moisture getting into connections, into cable, corrosion etc.

Someone in the area may be able to offer better advice regarding reception of Freeview but generally the digital transmitters in NI are running on low power at the moment, until the analogue signal is switched off on Oct 24th next. Also none of the relays are carrying Freeview.
