Replacing QEM OS on a self-build?

I’m doing a new system build and I was given Windows 7 Pro 64-bit upgrade edition as a gift. I currently have Win XP Pro 32-bit installed on my old system. It’s OEM software that I purchased from komplett. I was hoping to install XP and then install the Win 7 64-bitupgrade on my new build.

But here’s the problem, I cannot find my original win XP Pro 32-bit installation disc which was last used when I built my system. I do have the certificate of identity, with the product key stuck on the side my case. So do you guys know of anyway I could replace the lost OS installation disc?

I have done a thread search and nothing really relates to my problem, since I have a self-build.

first of all, to do the upgrade you would need to go XP-Vista-7
Second, you can't do an upgrade installation from 32 bit to 64 bit...
Finally.... OEM software is tied to a machine, so one install is all you get out of the licence.....

Damn, I though I could bypass vista and go straight to Windows 7.

I suspected that, but wasn't to sure tbh, so thanks for clearing that up me. Since the upgrade was a gift, I'll have to get it exchanged for the 32-bit version then.

I am aware of the QEM issue alright, but surely if I install the HD into a new build that would circumnvent the problem?

Just install the upgrade version twice, it should work then.

    READ THE CHARTER !!!!

    circumventing licenses

OEM license lives or dies with the motherboard

Whoa dude...... first of all, it's OEM not QEM... Sorry

Second, Don't exchange it. Stick with your ten year old operating system on the old one, and do a fresh install of the Win 7 x64 on the new build, why would you limit yourself to 32bit OS without any reason, and thirdly

    That's debatable, but not here.

You do not need to install any OS to run the Win7 64bit upgrade edition - in fact you shouldn't upgrade - except maybe from Vista 64bit, even then a clean install is better in most cases.

You can install the upgrade version on a new system aswell and activate it without hassle - however, legally you would need a full licence, oem or whatever of XP,Vista or 7, for that PC.

Hit the nail on the head here.

Sorry for being confused here, but are you saying I can install Win7 64bit upgrade edition onto a new system, without needing to install over an existing OS?

You can only upgrade if you have an llicensed OS to upgrade from. It's that simple.

You can't move the OEM copy and you can't move an upgrade of an OEM.

You will need to purchase a non-OEM version of windows to install on the new build before you can upgrade it.

    You can't upgrade trial versions.

Have a look at the price of full retail box of windows and you'll figure it out.

you could try purchasing a secondhand non-oem licenses , but you can't be sure it hasn't already been upgraded

Forgetting about new builds and upgrades ect, does someone have a solution to my real problem, which is....

If for any reason in the future, I need to do a re-installation of my current Win XP Pro OEM OS. How can I do this if I have lost the disc?

You can't. Your best bet would be contact Microsoft who should send you a new one for a "processing fee", while you can download Windows 7 legally XP and Vista you can't.
If you know someone who has the same disc (i.e: service pack version and OEM/not dell, toshiba etc.) it should work fine with your CD Key. As mentioned above an OEM license lives and dies with a motherboard its tied to (after first activation), and cannot be used on any other machine
