I didn't even know this guitar existed until the other day. €1100 for an ES 'type' Gibson sounds too good to be true. Any reviews I've read seem to be very positive however. Anybody own/had a go of one of these?

Looks the business price is not the usual rip off Gibson type.

Richlite fretboard, flat top, smaller body - not very ES in the classic sense.

Because of the whole scandal with Gibson and the authorities over the wood, richlite is going to replace rosewood on almost all of Gibson's models now, apart from the higher end custom shops. The new les paul standards and everything have it. Personally, I don't find it that bad, but for the price you pay for a Gibson it's ridiculous. 2000 euro for a guitar with recycled materials for a fretboard as opposed to solid wood is a disgrace.

Warmoth is one of the companies to pick if you want a Fender-style guitar. If you want something Gibson-style it's not a real option.

Richlite is just one of the fretboard materials Gibson are experimenting with though. Baked maple, Obeche and Pau Ferro are being used on a number of different models as well.

To be honest, Pau Ferro sounds quite appealing to me, even on a Gibson.

They're based in the US aren't they?

Washington, I think. But that's for another thread I suppose.

Anyway, I reckon that for the price of the Midtown Custom, you could fairly easily get yourself something with nicer features.

I realise that it's a completely different beast altogether - completely - but if were going to spend €1100 on a guitar I'd go for an Epiphone Elitist Casino. But, yeah, they're not the same thing at all.
