Honda CRV Help!

    Hi all

Short version is my 2 litre automatic 1995 Jap import Honda CRV conked about two weeks ago and I can't get it started since. My mechanic can't find the cause. So I need a mechanic specialising in Jap import Hondas or really good advice!

    Specific details are:

I was waiting for my neighbour to open his electric gates with the CRV running and in drive. I let up the brake, the jeep drove a tiny distance and just as he used the zapper on the gates the CRV conked. I don't know if the zapper could have had anything to do with it but, if not, it was very coincidental timing!

Took it to the mechanic and he's checked everything he can think of but it still won't start. The engine turns over but there's no spark. Mechanic's only suggestion is to try a new distributor but I was quoted €505 plus VAT for that which is too much for something that's only a shot in the dark.

I've tried to find a diagnostic connection but failed. I don't even know if there is one in that old a CRV.

Does anyone have any help or advice or contact details for a Honda mechanic?? I'm in Newport, Tipperary.

No spark leads me to think the ignition coil is gone.
Common enough on these--well I used to sell loads of them.Im out of the Honda game a few years but the coil is the first thing Id try.

A Honda garage will try sell you a complete distributor but you CAN just replace the coil.

Thanks Hellrazer. Is there any way of checking the ignition coil?

Not really since you dont have a spark anyway or so you say in your first post.

You could pull a plug lead off and hold it near the closest bit of metal(ground) and see if its sparking-you`ll see the spark jump from the lead to the metal but be careful--its HIGH voltage but low amps and will give you a nasty shock--wont kill you but it hurts like fook.

I dont think the Jap Crv had an immobiliser so its not a key problem.

No spark. I didn't know the coil was part of the distributor! At least now I have part numbers for the distributor and the coil, TD85U and TC-08A respectively. Now I just have to find one of them!

Thanks Mar4ix. I'll have to email the seller though because it says they'll only deliver to the UK

I was looking at this but I'm worried about customs duty and VAT!

i had one electronic device from USA, was 120 euro on paypal receipt. and seller put on dockets as gift, but customs didnt trust him, and requested receipt, at the end i paid od 35 for them. but if youll be able ask seller put on dockets price 50 or 60 dollars, i think it would be very cheap tax. , or even nothing, as there is certain amount, which not applicable to tax. ... cant remember how much exactly ... i thinnk it was 50 euro.. if im not mistaken.

I think the limit's €150 for customs and something fairly low for VAT. I'd be fine if they based it on cost but if Revenue valued a distributor based on Irish values it could be very dear!

Yep its a common coil even though they list it for some models it can be exchanged between them.

Go to your local Honda dealer--the part number starts with h30501-

Cant remember the rest of it....but theyre only around 50 euros + vat new.
