why is quota yr not calender??

    well lads always wondering why the quota year doesnt begin in january. a lot easier to just dry up the cows in october if there is a superlevy any thoughts??

    We are the only country with a predominately seasonal calving pattern but every other country has a fairly level supply pattern to supply liquid milk and value added sectors(yogurts/cheese etc) with milk all year. So it would only have suited us to have a Jan-Dec milk year and iirc we would have had to give up something like extra quota or some beef concessions to get it so it was quietly dropped
