Bill Gates joins Energy Secretary Steven Chu to discuss how America can meet and prosper from 21st century global energy challenges. Moderated by John Podesta. Recorded at the ARPA-E 2012 summit.

Bill Gates : Crazy how little we are funding energy innovation. US not the biggest market. Carbon tax is important in that it should scare decision makers toward future lower carbon power generation. Under funding is delaying rates of progress.

Chu : Storage is key for renewables. Miles per gallon mandate for US cars important for internal automotive policy decisions. High performance computing essential for simulation of nuclear reactor research.
