Do I have everything now that I need to get the proper HD signal?
I have an HD ready TV and a HD Satellite Receiver.

I am wondering if the actual dish on the roof and the cable that is connected to it can be left as it was -or whether that too needs to be upgraded (a bit like the HDMI cable replaced the Scart cable)

Doesn't matter to the dish or cable if the signal is HD or SD. If the dish and cable are in good condition and properly aligned there shouldn't be any problem.

All you should need is the HDMI cable between Sat receiver and TV.
