Help with College Project

    Hey Guys,

I'm a graphic design student and I have a project to design some screenplay covers in order to attract film goers to literature. I have never bought a screenplay before, and I was wondering if anybody here could help me out by answering a few questions? or direct me to a thread were I could find these answers?

I was wondering if the people who buy screenplays, buy them before the they see a film?
Also, if you were to buy a screenplay, would you be looking for some element of the films design to connect the film to the screenplay?, eg. a similar image or typeface, or even a image from the film?

    Any help would be appreciated,
    Cheers.

Screenplays don't have picture covers, only the published ones and they're not really screenplays as they're usually in a different format to save space.

usually the screenplays sold in a shop will be just the movie poster, actual screenplays used in film productions just have the films title and writer on them usually, black text on plain paper, nothing fancy.

    Cheers Finneen and Krudler,

I still have to design covers for the project, (they are not going to be published, it's just a made up brief), so would you buy a screenplay before seeing a film? or what other reasons would you have for buying a screenplay?
I'm just a bit confused on the brief and want to get a handle on it,
    Cheers

I only know only one person who bought a screenplay in a shop and it was the Deathproof one. He bought it because Quentin Tarantino was there and he wanted him to sign it.

Not being difficult, but I think you'll find an awful lot of people who read screenplays will do so online. I'd imagine most screenwriters do the same :pac:

However, you will find people tend to predominantly read 'leaked' screenplays or ones that were never produced (e.g. David Lynch's Ronnie Rocket). The market for 'purchased' screenplays is likely quite low, although they do exist, sometimes with some added essays or interviews. I recall getting a book of scripts for Father Ted for Christmas when I was much younger, for example. Was a curio solely for a number of deleted scenes.

I didn't even know you could buy screenplays and I have never met anyone who has. If I was looking for a screenplay then I'd just go to google.

Maybe change the word 'screenplay' to 'book' and this may make a little more sense.

I wish I could, but the brief is to design a screenplay cover:rolleyes:, and there are a few problems in it.

No links since I'm not quite sure what the legality of it is. Not at all hard to track down, though.
