Rent Allowance for maynooth query??

Hi I am a single person living in shared accomodation and the rent max limit for kildare is 270e , my rent is 340e.
will i get rent allowance or do i need to get my land lord to reduce my rent to the max limit?
I was told when i phoned that centralised unit for rent allowance that if my rent was at or just below the 270 e , i probably wouldnt get it , and also because my rent was 70 e higher I wouldnt get it either...
Very confused over this !!
Some of my friends are getting rent allowance and their rent is above the max limits ... and they still get their payment - could some one please explain how it is calculated ? I am only getting BTEA social welfare payment per week.
any help would be much apprecieated!!!

They could be getting RA for a few reasons, they havent had a rent review yet and until they do their rent falls within the old limits. Or which I reckon is more likely the case....they and their landlords are lying to the CWO about what their rent is and are 'topping up' to pay the balance of what the rent actually is.

All landlords who rent to rent supplement receivers will be faced with either reducing their rents to the new limits or having to find new non RA tenants.

so, you wouldn't be lying if you pointed out that you'll have to move to one of the cheaper places "available" in Maynooth during your negotiations.

Also, check with the accomodation office in the college. They are really helpful in there. They might have lists of places available.
