I know that the government are planning to rejig the tax laws next year but I'm looking at getting a new car in April of this year and was planning to go '08 or above. However, what I'm wondering is for what month does the current tax rate system change for 2008 cars? Is it for those registered from July onwards or what way does it work?

Anything after the 1st July will be on the new system, anything before will be on whichever is cheaper.

Didn't realise that even a car bought from befre 1st July would go onto that system.

People who bought between January and July were able to switch to the co2 system if it was beneficial to them. They just paid tax for 3/6 months under the old system depending on when they bought their car and then changed.

So even if I bought, say a March 2008 vehicle now, I'd be able to go onto the cheaper system?

I'm looking at a Passat with 153 CO2 emissions, does anyone know what tax band it would be in or what site I can get the emissions table at?
