    Hi

Was looking at Refurb Store to buy Macbook Air 256GB

    Was wondering..

What the difference between the Oct 2010 and the July 2011 models

    Is the 2011 worth the extra cash ? 2010 @ 959 V 1320

This will be primary device and will use email, web, itunes and word

    Any help appreciated

    DT

The July 2011 is one of the new models. The main difference from the previous model is that they have backlit keyboards, Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt. If you can go for this one you should.

Just make sure you get one with 4GB of RAM. You can't upgrade it later and 2GB will seriously hinder you down the road.

Dont Waste your money with a Mac Air..

The Mac Pro is a desktop workstation that hasn't been updated in years (it's certainly in need of one), and isn't anywhere near the same market segment as the Air. If you meant the Macbook Pro, again it's a slightly different market - the Air is substantially lighter, and much easier to carry around. The Air is in the "Ultrabook" market segment, and if you're doing a lot of travelling with no need to carry around optical media drives, etc. it's certainly useful for that.

Personally, I'd go for the MBP - but then I'd go for a 15"/17" model anyway - as I have different usage requirements. For what the OP has listed their requirements as, the basic MBA is more than enough - and the advantages with the portability are (imho) worth the sacrifices that you lose vs the MBP.

Getting a cheap notebook will cost you in the long run...I know servial people who have bought cheap notebooks and they have either broke or drove them crazy.

For your needs a macbook air is perfect. Do remember that they hold their value quiet well so you can recoup some of the money spent on it. A notebook on the other hand does not.

Few rumors going around that the macbook pros are going to the form factor of the macbook air. http://www.macrumors.com/2012/03/29/apple-ramping-up-production-for-13-and-15-next-gen-macbook-pros

I was going to buy a MBP when in New York last month..

.. but to see the difference in opening applications like iTunes and Photoshop on MBP Vs MBA is absolutely mindblowing.

Bought a MBA after seeing this.

The SSD makes a HUGE difference.. I can't even stress how much of a difference it makes.

I agree - I really wish Apple would introduce a first party option like the Optibay, and get rid of the Superdrive.

That is the primary reason for me buying MBA

    SSD is super fast

It's a MacBook Air, not a Mac Air. And please don't troll in here.

First off I'm not trolling in Here,

Second. Its a watered down version of a Laptop at the same price of a High Spec Laptop..

Third off why spend 995 for a
    • 1.6GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
    • 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    • 64GB Flash Storage
where he could buy a MacBook Pro for 1,219

    • 2.4GHz dual-core
      Intel Core i5
    • 4GB 1333MHz
    • 500GB 5400-rpm1
    • Intel HD Graphics 3000

    <snip>

I do have a MacBook Pro and a Ipad for Reading Pdf and College Notes...

Specs aren't everything. The MacBook Air is lighter, slimmer and more compact. It's a notebook so stuff like that matters. And the SSD means it much faster at most everyday tasks than the MBP. It boots up faster, it launches applications faster etc. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a waste of money.

I have both a MBP & a MBA. They're two entirely different machines & to be honest I find myself using the Air a lot more. Its starts up almost instantaneously, opens apps faster, faster file transfer. Its also incredibly light and thin which makes portability a key feature in itself.

It's in no way watered down. I run everything I do on the Pro on here (even some 3d rendering) and it runs smoothly. Have you used an Air for any long length of time? I'm guessing not, because if you had you wouldn't have replied to the OP with such a misinformed opinion.
