Just heading out to the Adelaide V Collingwood game. Good chance to make the finals for the Crows, I think. If we do, hope its a home final against the Eagles. Not sure if we need the distraction coming from our low base the last few years but I suppose winning breeds confidence. Collingwood not bringing a full squad helps us tonight as well. Hope Mooney gets a run. Am very interested how Marty Clarke plays. Hope they both do well and are on the losing team!
Whats the thoughts on the NAB cup. Rubbish or worthwhile as a preliminary to the season?

If we make the final then the AFL will have it in Perth, just need to beat the Saints.

I like the NAB Cup, especially the three team round robin, and head along to the games every year. Good chance to see the new rookies as well.

    Well worthwhile IMO.

Xavi, glad you are wrong for a change!

Paddys night in Adelaide, NAB Cup Final, playing the eagles. Come on the Crows.

PS Mooney played good last night. Lots of talent there. But its great when your team annihilates Colingwood!

Yep after all the nonsense the AFL spouted during the week about how they had discretion to move it to Perth they did feck all in the end. Disappointing cause we'd have gotten 40k to it.

Hope we batter the Crows anyway.

How are all the Irish boys doing?
I downloaded an app called Footy Now. It is good for news reports and will show live scores for matches but it hasnt given team info for various NAB Cup games.
Read T Walsh has struggled so far. Will he start in first round. Im a Swans fan so was delighted to see Tommy cone on board this year. Sam Reid looks promising and looks like he could take centre or full forward role. Tommy may struggle to get game.
How about Setanta and Clarke and Hanley.
Hanley seems to have quitely worked his way into perm starting spot.

Walsh hasn't been great so far but will improve with more game time. I doubt he'll play round 1 though, hasn't shown enough yet. Sam Reid is class and will in the Top 3 forwards in the game in a couple of years.

Setanta has been injured and hasn't played any NAB Cup yet but should be ok for round 1. Clarke played well at the weekend, still a bit rusty but will improve by the week.

Hanley was great last year and should be a big player for the Lions this year.

There's 2012 previews for all the Irish players here and here

Thanks for those links. A very good read.
He tips Touhy as being most capable but he is in serious competition in that Carlton side. He might need an injury to get a break.
One thing is that too many Irish players are going to big clubs. Hanley has benefited from getting a run of games in a poor brisbane side and he has made progress away from the limelight.
It would be nice to see one of them breaking through. I think if Tommy broke through he would have a big impact as a scoring full forward will always be v valuable.
Are these games on TG4 again this year?

The writer of the articles appreciates your positive feedback ;):D

Tuohy will play a lot of games this year, bank on it. He's rated very, very highly at the Blues. Massive potential there

It's a double edged sword really - the big clubs (Collingwood, Carlton etc.) might have more competition for places but also have better coaches/facilities which help develop the players better. Although Brisbane have a great track record bringing through their Irish players with Begley, McKeever and obviously Hanley all making some sort of impact at AFL level.

I'd say highlights will still be on TG4 I'd say, live games on ESPN presumably.

Go on, you mighty Crows. Maybe even top 8 this year. Happy St Paddys Day from Adelaide!

As previous years have seen, the winner of the NAB Cup always finishes in the Top 8. Given their fixtures this year I think they can do that.
