Could someone in UPC please update the Dublin network map on the UPC website, it hasn't been updated since some time last year as it talks about the end of 2011 in the future tense e.g. Areas in blue will be able to get TV, Fibre Power Broadband and Home Phone by the end of 2011.

    http://www.upc.ie/customer_support/network_improvements/

I'm especially keen to know if there's any 2012 plans to roll out HD in that great big swathe of white on the southside - Carysfort/Stillorgan/Foxrock/Cabinteely

You need to ring them. That map has never been accurate, for me anyway.

I'm on the Sallynoggin/Glenageary end of that white swathe and they've no plans to upgrade my area for phone or HD this year. You can contact them on 1800 940240 Network upgrade team or rebuildcomplaints@upc.ie.
    Good luck

Have you heard anything from them with regard to an upgrade date in your area?

No, and if you go here...

    http://www.upc.ie/customer_support/network_improvements/

and hover the mouse over the Dublin map, you'll see it's dated Jan 13th 2011 because the link is www.upc.ie/media/2011/1/13/2011BuildPlanV13.png

The map talks about 'proposed' 2011 upgrades so you can go figure.....

Same problem here, live in the center of the city, for some reason i figured if any where all the content would be available where i live.
rang about another matter recently and while on to them mentioned if they had any idea when id get hd/phone...
they had no idea, wasnt on screen so that suggested it wouldnt be any time this year.
    hate upc, i really do.

I'm in the Foxrock section of the big white swathe and yesterday got a notice in the door about and upgrade in the area over the coming months.

I'd be happy to switch broadband and get HD - roll on fibre!

I'm also in a white area and they still haven't updated the network map on their website since 2011 but I also got the same notification so HD is on the way at last, maybe in time for the Olympics or even the British Open?

Now I'll have to start watching the backlog of all those recorded programs if I'm going to swap the Digital+ box for HD!!

BTW I have 30 Mb broadband, I need the network upgrade for phone, HD and on-demand. But if your street has an old cable maybe they won't give you BB so I guess wait and then upgrade all at once and get a good deal.

Thanks - I assumed BB would be available if HD tv was - maybe celebrated too soon!

I think you interpreted what I said the wrong way around - my area doesn't have HD or phone available and I can't access On-Demand but BB is available. I have 30 Mb BB today but as of right now cannot order HD or phone so HD availability is not a pre-req for BB.

It's possible that you could have BB today if you wanted it but it's also possible that the cable in your area is too old. Either way, once they upgrade your local network to provide the option for HD, you can upgrade your complete package and one of your options at that stage will be to include BB.

Got it now - thanks. There's no UPC broadband available ATM - otherwise I'd have switch to this already.

I got a letter today about network upgrades in Dublin 12.We also don't have HD or on demand.(or phone for that matter)

I too am in the big white swathe, (Foxrock, Stillorgan), and I spoke to UPC Tech Support yesterday about BB, HD, Phone, On Demand etc. They told me that On Demand would be launched around the start of August, but that there were no plans to have HD, BB or Phone available THIS YEAR!

I am updating all my AV equipment at home and am stuck with a digital+ box that I can only connect to AV Amp via SCART to Phono cable, which is horrible. They want €60 & a 12 month contract to give me a HD box but no HD feed.

If i could figure out an easy way to get SKY to the bedroom and kitchen without multiroom fees i would be gone in the morning.

Did you get the postcard about the 'network improvement programme' happening in your area?

I did, I rang the freephone number and quoted the reference number on the postcard which relates to my specific area so I expected that the call agent would have all the details about (1) when my area was going to be upgraded and (2) which new services would become available...

Q: When the network is upgraded in my area, will I have the option of HD which I can't have at the moment, and will I finally get On-Demand?

A: I'll have to get back to you on that, can't give a definite answer

WTF is the point in having a freephone number and call agents to answer it when all they do is kick to touch when you ask a straight question?

All she wanted to talk about was what she referred to as the 'triple-play' bundle which refers to the three features of Fibre Broadband, Home Phone and Digital TV which are mentioned on the postcard, she knew SFA about HD or On-Demand.

i haven't received a postcard, but i did receive that standard letter telling me that my existing TV services are going up, but by a tiny amount, less than 1 euro.

However the bit that has me upset is the direct debit fee, which says that a charge of €3.75 will be applied "per bill" from August. Does this mean every month ?? That is simply not acceptable when the bill is paid via online banking direct to their account, utter nonsense. I am with NTL/UPC for over 12 years and have never missed a bill.

Also on the coverage thing, i have discovered that houses in my small estate that are near the main road have Broadband, but there are no plans to give it to the remaining houses until at least next year. Also i have been told by a reliable source that their assertion that i will have On Demand next month is 'unlikely' to happen.

If you didn't get the 'network upgrade coming soon' postcard then I'd seriously doubt that you're going to get on-demand any time soon.

Broadband doesn't seem to depend on the network being capable of supporting HD, phone or On-Demand because I can't currently get any of these three options but I do have 30 Mb/sec BB.

The cable in your area is probably too old to support you and all of your neighbours for broadband, it sounds like they have max'ed out on the bandwidth if people upstream from you have it but you can't get it.

Can't offer any advice on the payment issue, I just caved in and signed the DD a couple of years ago.

UPC are a joke. " there's nothing like it " what a cath phrase. You can't get the on demand in most areas. They say it will be in my area in August but I'm not sure it will mcfome.

Yes UPC are not the best, but having just gotten my first experience of SKY sales an hour ago, i'm not sure i should be jumping ship.

The girl was sadly lacking in knowledge, had to put me on hold to 'check that' multiple times, and after the call i was able to confirm via Sky website that she had given me incorrect info re HD and Formula 1 services.

UPC wrote to us in Feb 2012 saying they were 'doing' our area & they installed big boxes on the road in the estate & dug up the path. They left after about two weeks & never came back. Still no service available here - Stillorgan area. When you phone you get told a range of dates from months to years no one seems to know what is going on

Clearly they have done a complete switch from aiming updates at their customers via that network upgrade map (which still refers to 'the end of 2011' in the future tense) to paying minor celebrities like the TV3 weatherman to launch on-demand in a blaze of publicity along with other z-list 'celebrities' while keeping their customers completely in the dark.

If I click the on-demand button on my remote, it tells me the service is not available and to check www.upc.ie where (are you listening UPC?) there is zero information telling me when I'll get the service.

They dropped a postcard through my letterbox telling me they were going to upgrade the network in my area and giving me a freephone number to call, along with a code which referred to my local area so that I could get information specific to the area where i lived - or so I thought.

When I called (on July 6th) to ask if the network upgrade would give me on-demand, the call agent said she'd get back to me, I haven't heard a dickie bird since. Mind you, I should have known that she had no intention of calling me back because she never asked me for my account number, e-mail address or contact number, I had to say 'well if you're going to get back to me, will I give you my e-mail address?' and of course she said 'yes' and pretended to write it down but nada since.

I received the same letter in March 2011 in the Monkstown area, not far from you. Like you they dug up the roads and footpaths. They even put wires on my apartment block, which they never connected up properly. Since then I have never seen them in the area again. I did get HD, but I still can't get Phone, Broadband and On Demand. I was told on another thread on this forum that it might be because a neighbour objected to the installation of the cables. I have contacted UPC by phone, I have emailed their Network Upgrade Team and I have contacted their representative on this forum but nobody will confirm this or give me any answers, and nobody can tell me if I will be able to get these services in the future. Deeply Frustrating!

something that upc are guilty of as well, i find that if you take for granted that the person on the other end of the phone is basically winging it its better off all round.

Found this thread via a google search...

Anyway I'm in sallynoggin, also in the white area, no phone, on demand or HD. and out of curiosity I hit the "live chat" on the UPC website..

Got through to a Christina who told me that On Demand is due in September with home phone in January.

Noticed that Integrated Communications are doing some work on Rochestown Ave, between the NRH and the Garda station, they were also working on Johnstown Road over the past week or so, opposite Granville Road, so seems to be some movement in the area....

Just to update my previous message. UPC have finally fully connected the new cables on my apartment block in Monkstown this afternoon. Maybe just maybe I'll finally be able to get Phone, Broadband and On Demand here soon.

Pretty much covering so KN etc don't electrocute themselves. It's a temporary measure
