Caught the CEO of ConnectIreland.com on the radio this morning and I really couldn't get my head around it. Basically you persuade a company to locate in Ireland by by using your contacts (relatives, friends etc living abroad) and the State will pay you for each job created up to a maximum of 100 per investment. Looking at their website here: http://www.connectireland.com/ it looks very much like another "Your Country, Your Call" bull**** initiative. The CEO even came across as fairly evasive when asked what his company stood to gain from the venture. Also, when asked had anything similar been undertaken anywhere else in the World he had to admit that it hadn't. Good old Ireland boldly going where nobody has ventured before. This will all end in tears - remember where you heard it first. :(

A clueless administration clutching at straws

They could start making it easy or workable to be self employed, but they are absolutley clueless

The company will be paid E1,0000-E2,500 by the State, for each job created, payable two years on.

I don't see what you don't get. I've just visited the site, it seems pretty straightforward.

I can see how it would particularly appeal to small companies who deal with foreign trading partners in terms of domesticating potentially valuable transactions in Ireland (not necessarily relocating here) and earning a financial reward for their efforts.

It's not really clear to me why your OP is so critical.

Speaking of "Your Country, Your Call" - any word on when we might expect some updates (or grand openings) of the winners project "The Global Media Hub"? We are coming up on the 18 month anniversary, surely some progress.

I note Mr Leyden has not updated his blog in a while (almost a year) http://about.me/neilleyden
    http://blog.neilleyden.com/

I see that the Project now has 1 employee - a Mr N. Leyden
    http://www.linkedin.com/company/1298806?trk=pro_other_cmpy

And that his 7 year old media company now boasts 3 employees, two if you don't count himself.

Does YCYC have a refund policy...?? I remember some very workable projects...

The phrase "professional optimist" has never been more apt.

    45,000 jobs......

I'm actually going to start a dedicated thread for YCYC. Curious and Curiouser...
