Hey all, just looking for your recommendation on which version of Apocalypse Now I should watch?

I know there's a lot of versions out, so just looking for your opinions?

There's two versions. You should watch the theatrical version. If you like it then you can watch the "redux" version. Both versions are on the DVD/Blu-ray.

Avoid Redux at all costs, the extra 50 minutes do nothing for it, in fact they take away from an excellent film.

    The original version for sure,

after waiting years to see the redux I was very disappointed. It sprawls all over the place.

Watch the theatrical version. The Redux just ruins the pacing.

Yea I only watched redux, not the seen the theatrical one, found it overlong and boring. Been meaning to watch the theatrical cut the last while.

I'd watch the theatrical version. That was the original critically acclaimed film, not the redux.

And do you really have 200 minutes to spare?

Perfect guys, that's exactly what I was looking for.

    Nice one.

The mind boggles, what next, a 400 minute documentary about the origins of Bosco? :D

I really like Redux but saying that I had seen the original first, I think I could watch that film forever! I hear there is a a version online that has all the deleted scenes and goes on for hours, id love to see that even though id imagine its a mess lol.

Not sure if you've seen it but the documentary "A Heart of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" is all about the making of the movie and its really interesting. The amount of stuff that was changed or went wrong during filming is amazing! The original plan for the end of the movie is also very interesting :)

As others have said, watch the original first, then the doc and if you're interested go ahead with the redux. I love the redux, but more out of curiosity than anything else.

I have a 6hr~ VHS early workprint at home that has (obviously) appalling sound/video, cuts to nowhere and scenes that were just never edited.. but I loved it; watched it in one sitting. This was long before the redux, so it was all new at that stage.
