For a rimfire you cant go weong with a middle of the road hawlk scope! Something 3-12X40 or 50! That's what I have and it covers everything you will do with a hmr!

What's the budget? The problem with getting a budget scope offering high magnification is that the scope goes very cloudy at the high mag!

I'd say stick to roughly 12-14 mag

I've said it before and I'll say it again, sportsman gun centre in UK. bushnell banner 6-18x50 for stg£118 plus about £12 p&p. Works out about €160 or so and it is a cracking scope:D I have one on my HMR and you'll do well to find better.

That Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 is a very good scope for the money. I have one on my KIDD/Ruger 10/22

O'Hallarans in Drangan have them @€;199

Another vote for the Hawke here.

For that sort of money the Nite-eye 6.5-20x50 AOIR is a decent peice of kit - but it does cloud after about 14x. Anything in that price range will though.

For a few pennies more you could go for the Sidewinder 30 either, which has better glass and turrets.

Just ran through a few reviews for it there - clarity seems to be a big strength alright.

    I'll consider myself happily corrected.

Was intending on upgrading my own Nite-eye for the Sidewinder this summer but may have to take a wee look towards these guys now so.

I was looking at a sidewinder myself last year, and I tried out on mates one. It's a good scope, but for €400 plus it's overpriced for sure. I found the bushnell to be considerably better at less than half the price:D
