My bass keeps 'clicking'

    Ok, here's the deal-io...

...I've got my bass plugged in and am playing away, when I take my fingers off the strings it buzzes in the amp and each time I tip a string I hear a 'click' in the amp.

So it's like every time I touch a string a little 'clck' happens along with the note, even when I just tap a string a 'tap' is heard.

I don't know if I'm explaining that properly but I want to know what's wrong and what I can do about it? Would be something to do with a loose wire in the body?

    Help!

Sounds like you might have a slight grounding problem. If you are confident about it you could check the bridge ground and make sure it's intact in the cavity and at the bridge.

Hi, first of all thanks for replying to me. Really appreciate the advice.

Second of all, what's the advice? I don't really understand what your suggesting... a) i'm blonde and b) only been playing for a year & a half.

    Be patient!

    Thanks again, pips

Basically open the cover on the back that covers the electronics. If there is none then you will have to take the pickguard off. That might involve taking the strings off but they can be put back on easily enough.
Check for any wires that are loose or look like they are not well soldered to one of the pots or switches. There should be a wire running to the bridge, maybe through a small channel in the wood, make sure this one is well soldered and unbroken. You can check this is making good contact with the bridge but that can be complicated depending on the bridge as you might have to remove it, so if you don't feel confident about taking the bridge off then don't. Grounding problems can be hard to pinpoint so if you aren't good at soldering and can't see any obvious problems then bring it to a tech to look at.

That was going to be my advice too :). If you know a decent guitar repair place then they should be able to sort you out.

Thanks , guys. I think it is a grounding problem. Happened on my last bass and I opened it up and soldered it myself.

This is a Fender though so I'd be a nit cautious doing it. Off to the repair shop I go.

    Cheers for the help!
