My private insurance renewal is due this month and for the craic when i was on to a broker i asked about classic insurance for a '89 300SE she told me as a mirror to my NCB on my private car policy fully comp limited mileage i could be insured on it for €350  i dont think its too bad considering i'm 25.

So is it a good quote or could i do better?

Here's the car (not thinking of buying it as i'm saving for a house this year although i could live in the Merc and feck the house!!)

    you can probably do better.

If Irish Vintage society consider a classic vehicle more than 20 years old, it will cost you €135 third party.

    Hope it helps

Hi ,yes it is a very nice car but as its a 22year old your road tax stays in todays market so you are looking at about €700/€800+ a year on it so what you gain on your insurance you loose on tax,but put 10yrs more on that plate so its 79 your tax is now €52:) sounds even better now and if you join a classic car club get a better deal on your insurance.;)

If you are into cars and classics then classic insurance is good value at the moment. Obviously most people with classics care for them and drive them carefully and occasionally. Well worth consideration :p

A years tax on that Merc is €1390,so if you could get your insurance for about €200 or so ??
Look at it this way ,a lot of young people pay €1390 for insurance and only 200 or so for tax,so its swings and roundabouts.

Are the insurance rates quoted on that website open to anybody ?

I have a 34 year old car and am paying more than that by a substantial amount.

    hi can any one help?

I was given my grandparents car a 1 owner 1992 1.6 primera. with only 80K. Iam looking to get insurance on it as a second car. It would do less than 1000 miles per year and i would be the only driver. Just been NCT'd till June 2013.

Iam: 27 years old, have my own car policy already 5 years. driving licence 10 years etc...

I know the primera is not a real classic and is only worth about €500, but insurance wise it seems to be stuck in the middle. Not old enough to be a classic and too old for normal car insurance. Ive rang up all the usual, axa, no-nonsense etc they blankly refused cos of the car age. My own insurance company Glennons in Dublin quoted me €3000..WTF? Axa €1700 and they thought they were doing me a favour. It seems i have to take out a new policy and start at 0 no claims bonus.

I've previously had classic cover insurance on a 71 Beetle with FBD 2 years ago for very little money through the Vintage club.

anyone ever been in the same senario? where should i look? one smart mannered girl in a brokers said that primera is only a massed produced common car and will never qualify as a classic? Yet somthing like a fiesta, which sold millions can be a classic.?

    Thanks in advance

As always, the best advice is to sit down with a Golden Pages and ring every insurance company and a good selection of brokers. I'd be amazed if someone wasn't prepared to at least mirror your existing bonus.

What month in 1992 is it first registered?
If the car is 20 years old ,then any company that advertises classic insurance for cars plus 20 years should insure it.
Are you over 25, is the car a second car?

You will not get classic insurance on the car but some companies will mirror your ncb onto a second policy if your first policy is with them. Axa have done this for me and the second policy worked out at 400euro.

Yes iam a 27 year old professional. The car would be a second car and kept in a garage. will only do a few 100 miles a year if i can get it insured.

I have my own private car already with Insurance for the last 8 years.

If it's going to get that little use then you could occasionally transfer over your insurance for the weekend?

PM me guys if ya need classic car cover , normally as 2nd car , as main car needs full ncb.

1st classic normally needs to be 25yr old and if lucky enough to have 2+ classic then a 20yr old car is acceptable.......
