In her primetime TV series debut, Sigourney Weaver is set to star in Political Animals, USA Network’s 6-episode drama series from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, which premieres this summer. Written by Berlanti, the Washington DC-based series is a fictional look at a former first family that exposes a dynasty weakened by political ambition, lust and greed. It centers on Elaine Barrish (Weaver), the divorced former First Lady and newly appointed Secretary of State who throws herself into the job after recovering from the dissolution of her marriage and losing the presidential nomination. Barrish relies heavily on her son Doug (James Wolk), an ambitious politico who serves as her chief of staff, but is tormented by his twin brother’s struggles with addiction. With a philandering ex-husband who is still as much in love with her as the office he once held, she attempts to keep her family together, while simultaneously dealing with crises of the State Department and a hungry DC journalist bent on destroying her career. In addition to Wolk, Weaver joins previously cast Brittany Ishibashi as Doug’s fiancée. While launching with a short six-episode order, the Warner Horizon-produced Political Animals is envisioned as a regular series that USA brass hope will run for a number of years.

    Hillary Clinton show :p

Ciaran Hinds has joined the cast of USA Network drama Political Animals.
The six-part series from Greg Berlanti, Laurence Mark and Warner Horizon centres around a former First Lady's family in Washington DC.
Sigourney Weaver has already signed up to play the former First Lady Elaine Barrish, while Hinds will play her ex-husband Bud Hammond - a gifted and once-popular politician who has yet to recover from the divorce, reports TV Line.
James Wolk will play Elaine's son and Carla Gugino will assume the role of a reporter intent on ruining Barrish's career. Sebastian Stan has also been cast, as the twin of James Wolk's character.

Looking pretty good. Like a West Wing lite with higher ranking players. Definitely the alternative reality Clintons with the Reagan family mixed in and Ciaran Hinds was right when he said he was thinking LBJ in terms of tackiness.

It reminded me of Dirty Sexy Money quite a lot. Entertaining but not exactly high brow stuff.

Great call. I was thinking the same myself. I liked what I saw but they're just getting going so it's hard to make a call just yet. I am still a bit mystified why the Sec. of State decided to confide in the reporter after all that happened. I don't think it's been adequately explained and seems a bit contrived. I'll give them a chance though.

Is that who she is? Yes, she'd excellent! I love her character!

Let's hope this particular daughter doesn't start speaking in tongues or vomiting goo! Sigourney Weaver writhing around in Ghostbusters was enough!!! :)

Absolutely loved it. I've watched it four times since it premiered( Yes, I have no life). Here's hoping they nix this "Limited series" thing. I'd thoroughly enjoy a few more seasons of Elaine Barrish.

Aw have they? Feck! I actually found it an OK show. I think they were getting into gear at this stage. In real terms this was a better show than The Newsroom (also politics related) yet this dies and Newsroom lingers on... :(
