PhD student workspaces?

Right, we all know you can kill a priest with a bow and arrow once a year on the Trinity campus and get away with it, but I'm trying to find out about another possibly fictitious urban legend.

I just registered as a research student and a couple of people have told me that you're entitled to a desk or research area somewhere in one of TCD's buildings if you apply for it. I've done some Google Fu but haven't come up with anything.

Anybody have any idea if this is true or not?

Depends on where your PhD is I think. I'm in engineering and I have a desk in an office.
As far as I know, the library will provide a reserved desk for PhD student in humanities if your department doesn't have office space for you. I'm not entirely sure how the process works tho, so maybe someone in that situation would be better placed to clarify..

    Info about Library carrels: http://www.tcd.ie/Library/using-library/carrels.php
Otherwise, it would depend on what department you're in.

You can apply for a library carrel, definitely. Anything else is up to your department.

Cheers, this is what I was looking for.

I think the department has its own study space too but I'd like to get a hold of one of these if possible. Since I'm a March entrant I'd imagine they're all taken though so I'll have to find somebody to murder/bribe.

    Thanks again!
