    Also, if you're a student, you can get Windows server through dreamspark for free and customise to be similar to Windows 7.

    The software4students offer ends this month, so get it now while you can.

    Edit: Just been wondering, can you install an upgrade copy of windows 7 to a brand new system? Like if you were to get the windows 8 beta and then 'upgrade' to windows 7, does this work?

    Any noticeable differences for games? Surely it's tuned for more enterprise applications?

    I might give it a try, I still have access to dreamspark afaik.

    There's links in the guide in my signature. It requires a bit of tweaking or you can download packs that do the work for you. I haven't tried it myself.
