If I remember correctly Cheltenham winners have a shocking record in the national. Didn't Garison Savannah finish 2nd in the national after his festival win?

To answer the actual question I don't actually know!

Hedgehunter was 2nd in GC and 2nd in GN in 2006

Royal Auclair was 4th in GC and 2nd in GN in 2005

Not winners obv but 2 that came to mind.

That would be a matter for statistical analysis. There are 40 runners in the National, not always, but that makes it hard to say with any confidence the record of performance. Of course winning the race after winning at Cheltenham is probably statistically unlikely anyway.

Would love to see some analysis on the runners of both competitions since 1990

    Add Sunnyhillboy to that? ;)

Will Synchronised go for it now? (I'd bet against it)

Probably not, there is enough evidence in this thread to suggest your posts aren't reliable.

Jonjo O'Neill rode Alverton to win the 1979 Gold Cup and was on him again when he was sadly killed at Beechers in the '79 National. I wonder if that will weigh on his mind in the coming weeks.

Whether Alverton would have won that Gold Cup if Tied Cottage hadn't fallen at the last is another debate...

    (No he wouldn't.)
