Fuel Gauge Question

Howdy, the fuel gauge on my '05 Peugeot Partner 1.9 non turbo will only drop to about 1/4 full and hangs there until I'm near empty. I has done this on the last two fills. It takes about 56 litres to fill and took 55.5 this morning even though it was showing 1/4 full...

I'm wondering if it could be a problem with the gauge in the dash or the unit in the tank, any ideas, thanks?

This happened to me before in an Opel Corsa. Would fill up, then when I was burning petrol, stopped at 1/4, and then all of a sudden I was stranded on the side of the road with no warning. It was my fuel pump in that case, but not sure if this would be the case with your car!

My alfa does this, takes 50-55 L to fill, sits on full for a good 90 miles, then once it gets to a quarter full, rapidly drops to nothing.

I tested it by putting in 5 litres to see where that got it and it showed 1/4 full, so it doesn't reflect the true level.

Have you had the car long or has it always done this?

Having tended to drive older cars the guages tend to be temperamental, I find the best is to fill them completely up and track the usage quarter by quarter so you gauge what they mean for you over a full tank?
