Very sad to see national lightweight champ Michael McDonagh has pulled out of the final Olympic qualifier in Turkey. Its being reported that he is finding it hard to adapt to international boxing, out of his comfort zone of boxing in Ireland.

He has apparently stepped aside and let David Oliver Joyce have another go

Hes home from Germany today. The elite squad are having a camp out there

Wow. Something is not right. He seemed so upbeat and determined when he was interviewed after the Senior Final. It's the pinnacle for any amateur athlete to get to the Games. I sure hope DOJ has been keeping busy and staying in shape.

Disappointing for him, but one man's loss is another man's gain. David Oliver Joyce has a really good shot of making it now. I believe there is 4 places still on offer, and with the top guys already qualified, it should be very achievable.

Strange decision to make for the youngster he could well have qualified,this
could have implications for him,will he lose his grant which is not to be snuffed at
