I'm looking at changing my car and am thinking of buying a 08 Mondeo, either 1.8 or 2.0 TDCI.I've been reading reviews which suggest its an excellent all round car.
Has anybody real world experience in relation to running costs and mpg? What are the most likely faults and what do i need to look out for when i'm test driving?

I had an 08 Ghia with around 110,000 miles on it.

It felt brand new. I think they are a great reliable car. Go for it.

I own an '08 2.0 TDCI zetec estate,
I get around 900-1000KM for a tank of diesel,
    last fill was €100.
    I've had it 5 months,no problems so far(touch wood)
although it's gone through a few bulbs in that time, and the bonnet cable was sticking,a spray with some WD40 has solved it for the moment.

Nice comfy car, good to drive, and reasonably powerful,
    they look good too,
all in all I'm happy with it,
    hope this helps you OP:)

I've had a 08 1.8 diesel Zetec (6-speed) since August. Just gone through 100,000km on the clock and no mechanical issues to report (so can't really help you with what to look out for). Very pleasant to drive but you definitely notice how big it is when parking or doing tight manouvering so parking sensors are more useful than I expected. I believe these weren't standard on the 08 Zetec, but I'm glad I've got 'em.

Car's onboard computer currently telling me I get 46mpg averaging 23mph but according to my records I've got just over 42 across all driving since I got it. Typically about 1000km per fill of about 67l. Do much better when up to temperature and cruising for long steady runs but about half my time is city/cold start/stop-start/level crossings/traffic lights/etc (other half is probably 95km/h on M50 which would average things out to some extent).

i had an o8 2.0 d titanium as a company car until this Jan. it had 250,000km when i gave it back. the only problem i had was that the alarm started going off for no reason but a trip to the dealer sorted this quickly. Would highly reccomend this car for spec and handling and reliability. wAS GENUINELY SAD TO SEE IT GO.Have a Skoda superb now and while it is to early to comment on reliability it has great spec and is very comfortable and good value. Handling and fuel consumption not as good but would reccomend these aswell

Thanks for the advice lads. There doesnt seem to be a lot of Titaniums around within my budget.I drove a 1.8 petrol Mondeo a few years ago and hated it because of how slow it was but i'm assuming the diesel is a lot quicker. I've started looking at the Mazda 6 as well so its just a matter of driving both and then deciding.
