Converting Jeep from Commercial to Private?

    What sort of costs are involved - Have found a lovely Discovery in my price range but its Commercial ( hense why it is most likely in my price range ) - Is it possible to buy a commerical & convert it for private use?

    There are no costs involved apart for the difference in tax. You just need to go into your local motor tax office and register it as a privately owned vehicle.

    Thats great, thanks for that - now need to figure out cost of putting additional seats back into it which may just put it out of my price range

    Thats not true what about back seats, seat belts and the cost of converting it back and plus the fact if it was a commercial leaving the factory it may not be possible. You may have to pay vrt also..

    As Corkie says, check carefully. If it was imported as a commercial it won't be worth it. If it was imported privately, private VRT paid and then converted, not so much has to be done to commercialise it and it may be worth it if it it only has tinted windows and the seat belt mounts aren't welded.

    You'll also end up paying €1050 motor tax.

    There's plenty of passenger discos out there so do your sums first.

    That's a fair point, never thought of that. I was thinking about it from purely a tax point of view.
