E-toll Unpaid Toll Notice

Came home for work now to find 2 letters from e-flow which I had been expecting but not to the extent that i was about to find out. Was hit with the €46 bill x2 for a Northbound and Southbound journey I made a few weeks ago. As I say I was expecting notice, that of an additional penalty of €3 for each of the journeys. I did not receive any notice until this one.

Now I know I should have paid the toll within 24 hours but it slipped my mind and then I read on their sight that they would issue a letter with the additional charge.

Has this happened to anyone ? And how understanding are they with errors like this ?
When using the M50 toll road, payment should be made before 8:00pm the following day to avoid an additional charge of €3.00 being applied to the original toll. If you miss the 8:00pm next-day deadline, a "First Penalty Notice" will be issued to you by post and the "Journey Reference Number" must be used when making the penalty payment.

    Hi

I had the same , basically the first letter got ' lost in the post '

Phone them up straight away , I did , they cancelled the 40 euro surcharge and ' only ' charged me 6 euro for the two journeys.

I got a real land when I opened the letters just like you !

User pays, that's the price for being forgetful and a big price aswell.
Why not just buy 2 toll trips (€6) and keep it in your glovebox or in your wallet for a journey that "slips" your mind or go with eflow and put on your credit card at €2.50 per trip (if you have one) .
By all means chase it up and get it reduced if you can.

I forgot about a toll once and called them 2 weeks later and told them I may have accidentally crossed the toll point and could they check if I owed anything. They had no record of it. I've heard since that it was because I have northern plates, but worth a try for everyone in the future.
