Social welfare asking for access to bank accounts

    Hi,

Does anybody know why social welfare is asking for four written permissions to access accounts held in your name, in any financial institution of their choice?
I just got asked for this on a standard review letter. This is as well as the six months bank statements they usually require. Do they have the manpower to go through the bank accounts of everyone who is receiving a payment? Or are they just asking in the hope some people won't show up for review?
Would appreciate to know what it is about.

Is that not just where you give them permission to check with the banks in case you have any accounts that you haven't disclosed?

It's well within their rights and powers if that's your question.

Of course you don't have to cooperate with their request, but then they'll more than likely just reject your claim; it's entirely up to you.

If you've nothing to hide where's the problem?

Try asking in State Benefits instead:
